Our Upper Elementary (grades 4-5) students participated in Microsoft's National STEM Day 2021. They spent time with 16-year-old Genius and Mathematician Apoorva Panidapu, who spoke about gender stereotypes linked to math and how the students can change that. Then they had some fun with mathemagic and learned some cool tricks to wow our families. They also experimented with paper loops and Möbius strips. They found out that a Möbius strip has one surface. They also learned that when you connect two regular loops together and one loop and a Möbius strip, they both make a square. After more experiments with the Möbius strips, the students discovered that connecting two Möbius strips together produced two connected hearts!
