Class for Age 3-K
Schedule
Each classroom has its own schedule, which is posted in the classroom. Included in all daily schedules is a two-hour, uninterrupted work time in following the standards set by the American Montessori Association. This uninterrupted time allows the students to fully focus on their work.
A Glimpse Inside the Classroom
When you walk into a Pre-elementary classroom, you’ll notice students spread out across the room—some working on rugs, others at tables. Each child is focused on an activity they’ve chosen or one the teacher has gently guided them toward. As one parent put it, “It’s like the teacher is the conductor and the students are the musicians in an orchestra—each playing their part, but all in harmony.” Watch the video to see what they meant.
Pre-elementary Curriculum
The Montessori Pre-elementary classrooms (Age 3-K) offer prepared environments where students are free to respond to their natural need to work. The student’s innate desire for learning is encouraged by giving them opportunities to engage in spontaneous, purposeful activities with guidance from the teacher. Differentiated learning styles are supported and the students progress at their own pace and capabilities.
Students will:
- Gain independence through their work in a prepared environment.
- Develop intrinsic motivation and concentration through the self-selection of their own work.
- Build confidence and competence through the use of self-correcting materials that encourage purposeful repetition and invite creative innovation.
- Use hands-on materials to build concrete understandings of abstract concepts.
