Curriculum
Eton School follows the traditional Montessori approach of age grouping . The pre-elementary groups children between the ages 3 - 6 , the lower elementary program groups students in grades 1 - 3 (ages six through nine), and Eton upper groups 9-14 year old students in grade levels of fourth through eighth. Curriculum is interdisciplinary, allowing the child to satisfy natural curiosities in related activities. The pre-elementary student (ages 3 - 6) acquires preparation for the elementary level through specially designed Montessori sensorial apparatus and practical life exercises. The Montessori cosmic approach lends an appreciation of all living things through the study of language, history, social studies, geography and the sciences. These cultural subjects, in addition to language arts and mathematics, are incorporated into the elementary child's curriculum (ages 6 - 9). Abstract concepts are presented with Montessori sensorial materials. Eton's upper level, the fourth through eighth grade program (ages 9-14), continues the philosophy of educating the whole child in an increasingly teacher directed approach. In recognition of the unique emotional, social and academic needs the preadolescent, the upper teachers work as a close team. The goal is to provide a solid academic bridge from childhood to adolescence as we lay the foundation for developing responsible citizens. An understanding of other cultures is broadened through the study of other languages. The foreign language program offers conversational and written Japanese, French and Spanish twice a week with a specialist to pre-elementary and lower elementary. The upper elementary are offered instruction in Latin two to four times a week. The study of art history and the exposure to various art media enhances appreciation of the visual arts and lends artistic confidence. Students are taught practical computing skills such as the use of applications and keyboarding, and are exposed to the responsibility of using digital technologies to communicate, conduct research and express themselves creatively. All classrooms have access to the Internet. Physical health and fitness are addressed through the active participation in a daily organized program. Afterschool classes offer enrichment. Remedial tutoring is available. Childcare is provided outside school hours from 7:30am to 6pm. Privacy policy | School videos ©2003 - 2012 Eton School. All Rights Reserved. |
