Philosophy Statement

Eton School, founded in 1978, is an independent school offering a comprehensive education for the whole child. Our approach is developmental, as we assist the unfolding of each child's potential. We offer Eton Montessori for the needs of the student in pre-elementary through third grade and Eton's upper level for fourth through eighth grade.

Eton Montessori provides a Montessori education, using both traditional Montessori and contemporary materials. By following the child, Eton Montessori encompasses both the Montessori approach as well as current research. Within multi-age grouping (3 - 6 and 6 - 9) children receive both individual and group instruction. Each child learns basic skills in an environment that promotes concentration, order, independence and a love for learning. The child is introduced to the wonders of the universe, which fosters a sense of responsibility and a connection to the world.

Eton upper continues the philosophy of educating the whole child in an increasingly teacher-directed approach. In recognition of the unique emotional, social and academic needs of the pre-adolescent (9 - 14), the upper teachers work as a close team. Our goal is to provide a solid academic bridge from childhood to adolescence as we lay the foundation for developing responsible citizens.

We, the Eton staff, believe the aphorism "I am becoming" embodies the Eton School philosophy. We join the child in this process of life-long learning.
